Fidelity Transfer Tax Calculator: county and city tax in seconds

County plus city documentary transfer tax, calculated both directions — price to tax, or tax to price.

What does Transfer Tax Calculator do?

  • County documentary transfer tax by parcel location
  • City transfer tax where the city imposes one
  • Reverse calculation — enter the tax, get the sales price
  • Covers every Southern California county

How do I use Transfer Tax Calculator?

  1. 1Open transfertax.titletools.net.
  2. 2Select the county, then the city the property sits in.
  3. 3Enter the sales price to get county plus city transfer tax.
  4. 4Or enter a recorded transfer tax amount to back into the sales price.
  5. 5Carry the number into your FidelityAgent ONE seller net sheet.

The reverse lookup trick

When a deed records without a listed price, the documentary transfer tax stamp is still public. Enter that tax amount here and the calculator returns the implied sales price. On off-market Westside and South Bay trades, that is often the only way to price a comp.

Cities with their own transfer tax

Several Los Angeles County cities charge a city transfer tax on top of the county rate, and the City of Los Angeles adds the Measure ULA brackets on high-value sales. Always confirm the city before you present a net sheet — a missed city tax can be a five- or six-figure surprise at closing.

Transfer Tax Calculator FAQ

What is documentary transfer tax?
It is a tax charged when a deed transferring real property is recorded. The county charges a base rate and some cities add their own on top.
Can I calculate sales price from transfer tax?
Yes. Enter the transfer tax amount and the calculator returns the corresponding sales price — useful for pricing off-market comps.
Which Los Angeles cities charge an extra transfer tax?
Several do, and the City of Los Angeles also applies Measure ULA to high-value sales. Select the specific city in the calculator rather than assuming the county rate.
Who normally pays transfer tax in Southern California?
In Los Angeles County it is customarily paid by the seller, but it is negotiable and should be reflected on the net sheet you present.
Does the calculator replace escrow's figures?
No. It is an estimate for planning and presentations; escrow's settlement statement controls at closing.
